MAC Trade Services has announced the appointment of Matt Csortan as Chief Executive Officer, marking an important milestone in the company’s continued growth and long-term strategy.

Having served as Chief Operating Officer for the past three years, Matt has been instrumental in building the operational capability that has underpinned MAC’s rapid expansion. During this period, the business has grown revenue by more than 120%, scaled its digital services with AI integration, expanded nationally and strengthened its position as one of Australia’s leading independent electrification and energy services companies.

Matt brings more than two decades of leadership experience across the energy and defence sectors, including senior executive roles with ZEN Energy and Codan Limited. His disciplined approach to operations, people and systems has consistently delivered sustainable growth while fostering high-performing teams and forging strong customer relationships.

As Chief Executive Officer, Matt will lead the next stage of MAC’s evolution, with a focus on scaling the business, strengthening strategic partnerships, supporting the company’s national network of more than 1,200 installers and delivering innovative energy solutions that help Australian households and businesses reduce their energy costs.

Founder Merrily Hunter will transition from Chief Executive Officer into the newly created role of Head of Growth, where she will lead the company’s strategic growth agenda. Her focus will include new market development, strategic partnerships, product innovation, digital platforms and emerging opportunities across Australia’s rapidly evolving energy sector.

As Founder, Merrily will continue to play a central role in shaping the long-term direction of the business, working alongside Matt to expand MAC’s national footprint and strengthen its position in the energy transition.

“This is a natural and planned progression for our business,” said Merrily Hunter.

“Over the past three years, Matt and I have built an exceptional leadership partnership. As we’ve grown, it has become increasingly clear that the greatest opportunity for MAC is to allow each of us to focus on where we create the most value.”

“Matt is an outstanding operational leader with a proven track record of building strong teams and executing at scale. Moving into the CEO role allows him to continue doing exactly that, while I focus on developing new markets, strategic partnerships and the innovation that will drive the next chapter of our growth.”

Matt Csortan said the transition reflected the maturity of the business and its ambitions for the future.

“MAC has built an outstanding reputation for delivering quality, integrity and innovation. I’m excited to lead the next phase of the company’s growth while continuing to build on the strong culture, customer relationships and industry partnerships that have made the business what it is today.”

The leadership transition forms part of MAC Trade Services’ long-term growth strategy and reflects the company’s commitment to building a resilient executive team capable of supporting continued expansion across Australia.

Founded by Hunter in 2014, MAC Trade Services has grown from a specialist energy efficiency provider into a national energy services business helping more than 25,000 Australian households and businesses every year reduce energy costs and embrace electrification. Today, the company operates across South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT, supported by a team of 55 energy specialists and a national network of more than 1,200 accredited installers.

Over the past decade, MAC Trade Services has become a trusted partner to governments, energy retailers and businesses, delivering energy efficiency upgrades, heat pump hot water systems, heating and cooling, solar and battery solutions, EV charging infrastructure and Virtual Power Plant programs at scale. In 2025, the company surpassed 10 million gigajoules of verified energy savings – the equivalent environmental benefit of planting 32 million trees.

Hunter has also become one of Australia’s leading advocates for electrification and energy efficiency through her role as President of the Energy Efficiency Council, helping shape national policy discussions and champion practical solutions that reduce energy bills while accelerating Australia’s transition to a cleaner energy future.

With a strengthened leadership structure, MAC is well positioned to accelerate investment in new technologies, expand its service offering and continue delivering practical electrification solutions that create value for customers, partners and the broader energy industry.

Matt and Merrily will continue driving the business forward with a shared vision for a more sustainable future.

Congratulations, Matt, on this well-deserved appointment. We look forward to seeing MAC Trade Services continue to grow under your leadership.
