What is a Virtual Power Plant?

A Virtual Power Plant (VPP) links home batteries together so they can support the electricity grid at times of high demand. Your VPP operator may draw on your battery during those peaks and, in return, offers benefits such as upfront payments, better feed-in rates, bill credits or a share of trading income.

Each program sets its own fees, contract terms, export caps and retailer requirements. Some let you keep your existing retailer, others need you to switch. That is exactly what the comparison above lays out, so you can pick the program that suits how you use your battery.

How the NSW VPP rebate works

Under the NSW Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS), households that connect an eligible home battery to an approved VPP can claim a cash incentive of up to $1,015, based on the capacity of the battery.

MAC Trade Services is an accredited provider under the scheme. Once you have joined a VPP, we manage the application and verification and pay the rebate straight into your bank account.
